Ballet
The Klein Dance Ballet Program is taught according to the Vaganova syllabus which was developed at the world renowned Kirov Theatre (Kirov Ballet) in St. Petersburg, Russia. The technical training covers the classical principles of body placement, alignment, and breath control through barre and center work. As students progress in the program the number of classes taken per week increases to develop proficiency and strength. Advanced classes include partnering, pointe, mens class and repertory.
Modern Dance
The Klein Dance Modern Program is based on a unique blend of the techniques of modern dance greats Lester Horton and Merce Cunningham, with additional studies in movement analysis, dance composition, and improvisation. Klein dance is the only school in the area that offers an advanced modern class at the professional level.
Jazz Dance
The Klein Dance Jazz Program is based on styles and techniques first developed in the 1940s under the guidance of such pioneers as Jack Cole and Katherine Dunham. The syllabus for this truly American dance form begins with simple isolations and progressions. It later incorporates refined body conditioning exercises utilizing floor work, barre and center work to culminate in more complex variations across the floor.
Tap Dance
The Klein Dance Tap Dance Program uses barre and center work to explore the various aspects of tap vocabulary including shuffles, clogs, softshoe, military rhythms and single, double and triple sound techniques. Dance routines are taught to stimulate coordination and memory retention.
Childrens Curriculum
For ages 2 1/2 through the teens, the childrens curriculum offers classes at age appropriate levels in all programs. Children experience the joy of the body moving in space while developing their technical skills as they progress through each level. In order to keep skill levels consistent in each class, admission to intermediate and advanced levels requires participation in a placement class and permission of the instructor. Some courses may require a prerequisite.
